When pottery is fired with rice straw coiled around it, the straw leaves brilliant scarlet lines. Bizen Ware has very fine pores and thus slightly breathes. The water inside stays fresh and alive for a long time, as does a flower. When using it for a long time the coarse surface becomes smooth.
