During the Edo period "5 days of the year" were designated as important yearly events and became known as the 5 festivals of the year.
Beautiful clay objects infused with the essence of Japanese culture passed on through the ages.

At "Suhara Tojiki Kobo" seasonal decoration becoming of the 5 festivals are made individually by hand. Each object is made with tender loving care with the skills passed down through the years.
One of the festivals was on May 5th. Originally it was an event in China. To ward off bad fortune, irises and mugworts were decorated in the house and sweets were eaten.
Now houses with boys raise koinoboris (carp banners) and decorate armor and warrior dolls to celebrate and it is known as the "Tango no Sekku"
