During the Edo period "5 days of the year" were designated as important yearly events and became known as the 5 festivals of the year.
Beautiful clay objects infused with the essence of Japanese culture passed on through the ages.

At "Suhara Tojiki Kobo" seasonal decoration becoming of the 5 festivals are made individually by hand. Each object is made with tender loving care with the skills passed down through the years.
One of the five festivals is September 9th. Nine being a positive number and so this auspicious date was selected. This festival was known as Sechie.
Originating in China, it was first celebrated in the Heian period among the royal families and was known as the Kiku no Utage, now known as the Kiku no Sekku.
